KATC’s Tools for Schools team is on the move and this Monday, we are at Magnolia Elementary in New Iberia for the drop-off.
Tools for Schools and Jim Olivier’s family of companies stopped to deliver advanced reading material to students in Mrs. Alecia Guilbeau’s class.
The materials were for Guilbeau’s gifted students to help increase their passion for learning.
“In the gifted program, we accelerate. We enrich and compact the curriculum. We move a little bit faster than the regular classroom and we have extra time we can do novel studies and bring other information into the classroom,” Guilbeau said. “I have a few novels but it’s not enough for the class so that’s what i asked for.”
Guilbeau also says that the reading materials will help students open up and introduce them to new ideas.
“I’ve got some novels on segregation, historical things. It will open up new topics for them,” Guilbeau said.
