Houston man identified as driver killed in Acadia Parish crash

CROWLEY — Louisiana State Police say a Houston man has been identified as the victim in a two-vehicle crash in Acadia Parish on Monday.

Troopers say that shortly after 5:30 am they began investigating a crash on LA Hwy 100 east of McCain Road in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Norges Ortiz of Houston, TX.

An investigation revealed that Ortiz was driving westbound on LA Hwy 100 when for unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lane of travel. Upon doing so, Ortiz vehicle struck an eastbound vehicle.

Despite being properly restrained, Ortiz suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police. The driver of the second vehicle was properly restrained and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say impairment is unknown, but toxicology samples were taken from the drivers for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
