The Opelousas Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting involving a child that occurred near Kim Drive and Mia Street late Wednesday night.
The shooting was reported at around 11 p.m. The child died from injuries sustained in the incident, according to police.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a negligent discharge of a firearm.
