There was a lockdown at South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) in Opelousas on Tuesday afternoon due to a possible "shooter in the area."

The Opelousas Police notified the school and placed it on lockdown. There was no incident at the school, according to a spokesperson for SoLAcc.

An all-clear was given around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Opelousas released the following statement on the shooting:

The Opelousas Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred near the intersection of Oak Street and Laurent Street, involving two parties who exchanged gunfire.

During the incident, a vehicle parked in the vicinity was struck. Two adults were inside the vehicle at the time but were not involved in the shooting. Thankfully, neither individual sustained any injuries.

As an abundance of caution, South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) was placed on a temporary lockdown due to its close proximity to the scene. The lockdown has since been lifted, and there is no active threat to the public.

Investigators are continuing to gather information and identify those responsible. The Opelousas Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Opelousas Police Department at (337) 948-2500 or St. Landry Crime Stoppers at (337) 948-TIPS (8477). All calls will remain anonymous, and tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
