LAFAYETTE (KATC) – In an era where spring games aren’t always what they seem to be, Louisiana football is finding a new take. But you may not even notice Saturday.

Louisiana will take on a tradition 1vs1, 2vs2 format, but behind the scenes will be the chang-up. Billy Napier won’t be coach. He won’t call one play or make one substitution. Napier will only be observing.

The players will draft their coaching staffs, picking coordinators and play callers.

“It’s competitive. It’s ownership. I think it’s a leadership opportunity,” said coach Napier in his final media availability before Saturday’s game. “I think it’s a chance for them to think about the opportunity. I think it exposes some people. Players and staff.”

Louisiana hosts its annual scrimmage Saturday at noon at Cajun Field.
