LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – With key plays at the plate and in the field from Sarah Hudek the 10th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball squad captured a 4-1 series-opening victory over UT Arlington at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.

Hudek homered leading off the fifth inning of a 1-0 contest to give Summer Ellyson additional breathing room. In the next half inning, after the Mavericks scratched a run trimming the lead to 2-1, she made a diving catch of a ball tailing down the left field line to preserve the lead for Louisiana (31-4, 13-0 Sun Belt).

Then in the sixth inning Hudek tacked on the last of the two insurance runs plated, delivering a sacrifice fly to complete her impact performance.

Ellyson was in control prior to the test in the sixth inning, at one point retiring 12 of the 13 batters faced after a leadoff single in the second inning. She crafted 11 strikeouts on the way to collecting her nation-leading 22nd victory.

LEADING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS
Hudek was joined by Keeli Milligan for game-high honors with two RBI. Milligan opened the scoring in the second inning with a high-chop RBI single into right field and began the score-stretching tallies in the sixth inning with a bases-loaded RBI ground out.

Kara Gremillion successfully executed two bunt singles for her third straight multiple-hit game in SBC action. The second single kept the wheels in motion for the bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning.

Bailey Curry (2-for-3) joined Gremillion in collecting a multiple-hit game. Her hard-hit single off the glove of UTA third baseman Brittany Wyllie triggered the run production in the sixth inning.

Alissa Dalton led off the game with a single which extended her hitting streak to 11 games.
