LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Press Release) – Louisiana could not unlock Little Rock’s starting pitcher Chandler Fidel, who held the Ragin’ Cajuns to just three hits and one run in their 4-1 defeat to the Trojans at Gary Hogan Field on Friday.
It was the third time this season that Louisiana (7-11, 0-1) has been held to one run in a ballgame, while the three hits are the second fewest produced in a game on the year.
Despite taking the loss in Friday night’s game, senior Gunner Leger broke the school record with his 53rd career start, surpassing Hunter Moody and Eric Templet for the most all time. He also moved into fourth in school history for innings pitched in a career at 317.0, surpassing Phil Devey (314.0).
Jacob Schultz threw the final 3.0 innings of the game, allowing only two hits and striking out three Trojans.
Sophomore Hayden Cantrelle reached base twice during the contest after being hit by a pitch his first time up and singling to left in the fifth inning. Jonathan Windham and Todd Lott provided the only other hits for Louisiana.
After the two teams each scored a run in the first, Little Rock broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning when James Gann blasted a two-run shot over the right-center field wall to put the Trojans ahead, 3-1.
Little Rock (6-12, 1-0) plated an insurance run in the next inning when Garrett Scott singled to score Chjristian Reyes and seal the 4-1 victory for the home team.
The series will resume on Saturday with first pitch from Gary Hogan Field slated for 2 p.m.
