LAFAYETTE (KATC) – Louisiana football’s 48-38 win over South Alabama Saturday made the Cajuns bowl eligible, but are they bowl probable?

The jury is still out.

The math suggests Louisiana needs to beat ULM Saturday to not only win the Sun Belt West, but make it to a bowl. The Sun Belt champion goes to the New Orleans Bowl, one of five SBC bowl tie ins. There are already six bowl eligible teams, with Coastal Carolina being a potential seventh.

A Louisiana loss in Monroe would likely mean Arkansas State wins the west and will face the winner of the Troy Appalachian State game in the Sun Belt Championship, presuming Arkansas State beats Texas State.

In a loss, the Cajuns could finish as low as third in the weaker west division, and seventh overall in the Sun Belt. That math, makes it unlikely that UL earns a bowl bid unless a non-affiliated bowl calls.

With a win, life is good, Louisiana will play in a Sun Belt title game, which would almost guarantee a bid.

The pressure will be at its climax Saturday in Monroe.
