LAFAYETTE (KATC) — Louisiana football is still in the mix for the Sun Belt West title, but the door could effectively close Saturday.

In week 9 it’s a near must-win game when Louisiana hosts Arkansas State. The Red Wolves beat the Cajuns 47-3 a year ago. Louisiana (1-2, 3-4) trails ULM by a half-game entering the weekend. Arkansas State also trails the division leading Warhawks by a half game heading into the contest. ULM is idle.

The Cajuns finish the year against Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State and ULM. A win Saturday may not only represent a chance to play in the inaugural Sun Belt championship, but play in a bowl game.

“We have to be really intentional and deliberate about what we do,” said Cajuns’ head coach Billy Napier. “Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics head coach) recently said ‘it’s not what you want, it’s what you do about it.’ That’s where we’re at. We’ve got lofty goals and there are things we desire to accomplish, but it’s about what we do each day.”
