LAFAYETTE (KATC) — Mess with the records and get an award. That’s how the saying goes, right?

The Sun Belt named Andre Nunez the conference’s player of the week. Nunez tossed five touchdowns on 19 of 25 passing in Saturday’s 66-38 win over New Mexico State. The five touchdowns tied a school record set by Jake Delhomme.

Nunez threw for 315 yards as the Cajuns tallied a program record 759 yards. It was Nunez’s first 300-yard passing game of his career.

“Most of the time it comes down to decision making, fundamentals, players around him playing well. That’s what happened Saturday,” said Cajuns’ head coach Billy Napier. “Andre’s job is to step, take care of the ball and make good decisions and eventually they’ll give you the game, and he did that..

Louisiana ran for 365 yards in the game, the second-straight week the team has eclipsed the 300-yard mark. The team now ranks 14th in college football averaging just shy of 250-yards-per-game.
