“It’s kind of tough, knowing that you have to be a leader and you’re a senior on the field, but with the guys I’m around it’s easy because I’ve been with them," said Senior Nikembe Johnson.
The reigning 1A Champions who brought North Central their first ever boys’ basketball championship title is looking to repeat history.
“To do something a lot of schools can’t do. Something nobody in this area has done," said head coach Jacobi Thierry. "That’s win back to back state championships.”
Coach Thierry says Johnson, the dual athlete is what the hurricanes need in the leadership role on and off the court to make school history for the second time.
“He’s pretty much the heart and soul that leads, even though you don’t hear him vocally on the court he brings a lot of energy to the team. The team feeds off it. If he’s in it, they’re in it," said Thierry.
