Saints with a surprise move taking Cesar Ruiz the center out of Michigan with the 24th overall pick.

The center started 31 games for Michigan, including some at guard. He was an ESPN Top 100 prospect out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Ruiz is listed as a center, but perhaps he's a guard in the eyes of Sean Payton. The Saints official release labels him as a Center/Guard, and New Orelans was likely seeking a guard early in this draft. That because Larry Worford's future is up in the air. The Pro Bowl guard is in the final year of his deal, and it's costing New Orleans $12 million this season. There was a rumor heading into the draft that New Orleans may trade Worford. (Still could)

Last year the Saints traded up center Erik McCoy. It's likely New Orelans has plans to move either McCoy or Ruiz to guard.
