LAFAYETTE (KATC) – For the third time the Southern Nationals Disc Golf Championship is in Lafayette bringing some of the regions best disc golfers to Acadia. But what exactly is disc golf?
It’s still a relativity lesser-know sport. Put Frisbee with golf and sprinkle in some custom gear and you’ve got something.
The discs are designed for disc golf, not quite like the ones you throw at the beach. Golfers throw from a tee pad, and eventually try putting into the a chained basket. Players even carry an array of different discs that move and carry different distances, much like a golfer would with different clubs.
Lafayette is home to three 18-hole courses at Pa Davis, Heymann and Acadiana Parks. Those three will be the sites for the Memorial Day weekend tournament.
