Cool Schools: Episcopal School of Acadiana

Posted at
and last updated

Today's Cool School is Episcopal School of Acadiana's Lower School. The students have been completing independent tasks, such as feeding pets, folding clothes, and cooking meals for their families throughout the month. Lower School Head Kathleen O'Shaughnessy and the teachers chose not to assign homework last month. Instead, they challenged students to choose tasks they haven't done yet but feel ready to do. The teachers provided a list of suggestions inspired by the Let Grow Project. The list includes a range of tasks so that students from PK3 through 5th grade can find things they are capable of doing.

When a student completes a task, the child makes a paper oak leaf, writes his or her name on it, and brings it to school to put on the tree in the Enrichment Center. Each grade level has been challenged to complete 40 tasks. They are well on their way!

If you have a Cool School, let us know! Send Dave Baker an email to weather@katctv.com. Put Cool Schools in the subject line. Include a picture and a short story about why your school is cool.
