LAFAYETTE — Studies are under way to determine the impacts of dredging the Vermilion River, according to a report by The Advocate,

Dredging supporters say deepening the river would increase its capacity to handle heavy rains and allow more boat traffic. Opponents worry dredging would allow saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico.
