LUS Fiber says they are partnering with the Lafayette Parish School System and Lover Our School's to offer internet at no cost to families in need.
The company says that internet will also be offered at a lower cost for all households with LPSS students.
The offer is part of LPSS and Love Our School's Link & Learn initiative.
The company says that a Pew Research Center survey conducted in early April found that “the vast majority of Americans view the impact of the internet positively, and nearly nine-in-ten say it’s been an essential or important tool during the coronavirus outbreak.”
“In a time where internet is an essential tool in education, the Link & Learn initiative is setting children up for success," said Mayor-President Josh Guillory.
The program is made possible through a broad public-private partnership between LPSS, Love Our Schools, Pugh Family Foundation, William C. Schumacher Family Foundation, One Acadiana, LUS Fiber, and other local businesses and community organizations.
LUS Fiber says that parents and guardians interested in applying should visit https://www.lpssonline.com/smarts for more information, including terms, conditions, and restrictions, and to print an In-Home Internet Assistance Application.
Applications must be received by a student’s base school no later than October 30th, 2020.
