Tom and Michael Zaunbrecher have seen their families, friends and neighbors struggle with the unimaginable in the past year.

In response, they're using the turn of the new year as an opportunity to inspire a rebound. Since they own franchises of Spherion in Lafayette, Alexandria and Baton Rouge, they're in a position to help. Spherion is a national staffing and recruiting company that helps companies hire people via temp-to-hire and direct placement, and helps people find jobs.

Next week, they'll be hosting a virtual job fair that features a variety of jobs for all levels of training and experience. It's called the “Let’s Get to Work Lafayette Job Fair," and it happens on Wednesday, January 27.

It's completely free for local residents in search of work, and participants can gain insight from Tom, Michael and their team on the job application process, hone their interviewing skills and advance resume writing. Residents can also speak directly with the hiring local businesses during the virtual event.

Even if there's no job on Wednesday that fits your skill set, Michael Zaunbrecher says you can find someone with his company that can help, because the job market really seems to be opening up now.

"It seems like, Even though the pandemic is still going strong, the job market seems to be opening up some. We've seen a pretty significant increase in our business starting in October and continuing into 2021," Zaunbrecher says. "It's clearly trending in the right direction, even as you see COVID cases spiking. Companies are starting to hire, and I can only imagine as it gets more under control, as we go through 2021, I would expect the job market to improve even farther in Lafayette and nationwide."

There are a wide variety of jobs available now, but new jobs are always becoming available, so job-seekers can make a connection at the fair that might pay off in the future.

"It's very easy to participate in it," Zaunbrecher explains. "It can't hurt to look, because we have everything from your general labor, unskilled positions all the way to highly professional positions such as accounting and CPAs. And just because you don't see something you're looking for when you attend the job fair, that's not to say something won't come available afterwards. You can form a relationship with one of our recruiters here, and the positions we have are ever changing, we're filling positions today, we're getting new positions in today."

If you don't see a job you want, you can still get some help from his crew, he said.

"You'll have the opportunity to chat with our staffing experts, get advice, if you have questions about your resume, we can help you with that," he said.

It's simple to participate, just click here and fill out the registration form.

"We're real excited to have as many people as we can from this area participate and get some people back to work," Zaunbrecher says.
