During this time of uncertainty one thing that is certain is the need for pest control.

The bugs just never seem to go away but one company continues to help control that issue

It's business as usual for J&J Exterminating, filled with the normal concerns that go with the spring of any year.

Along with the normal calls to action for fleas, termites and other pests, J&J now has COVID-19 to deal with as well.

"It's truly unprecedented times right now, so we're taking it day," said Donald Braly with J&J.

For a business that relies a good bit on residential access, J&J has had to pick up its game in these trying times.

"We're asking more questions before we put our technicians in potential harm's way. We want to protect the homeowner and the technician," Braly said.

It means temperature checks, masks, gloves, shoe covers. And a focus, at least for now, on the "exterior" of homes and businesses.

"We temperature-check everyone everyday in the morning, make sure they have all the gloves, all the supplies they need. We wear respirators any time we do inside work, shoe covers." J&J Pest Department Branch Manager Robert Thibodeaux said.

As with just about every other business, when the pandemic began, J&J had some early concerns about staying afloat.

"When it initially happened, we met as a management team to make sure we could provide a safe environment for our employees to work," Thibodeaux said.

And that's the real goal right now, staying safe and keeping others safe. Staffing remains constant as does the strong belief in civic responsibility.

"We service hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants - they all need a monthly pest service program and it's kept us busy through the crisis," Robert said.

And Braly agrees. “Right down to your eateries, restaurants, all of that, healthcare providers-- we’re vital to that role, so we’re grateful for that.”
