JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH, La. - A woman was arrested after a one-year-old child was found alone in a yard by deputies patrolling the area.

On Thursday May 21, 2020, Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office deputies patrolling observed a toddler alone in a yard on Jeff Davis Academy Road, according to Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey, spokesperson for the Sheriff Office.

The deputy stopped and picked up the toddler and approached one of the lots in the trailer park.

A woman exited the home and asked if the deputy had seen her seven year old and three year old children that she said were watching the toddler.

Deputies found the other two children inside the trailer, Ivey stated.

Deputies arrested the mother, Melanie Micah Reed, 27, for an outstanding warrant and child abandonment.

Reed was transported to the parish jail for booking.

The children were placed in custody of a grandmother.
