Today is the last day to register to vote if you plan to do so by mail or in person. Next Tuesday, October 13th will be the last day to register online. If you plan to request a mail in ballot, you should consider giving yourself a deadline for that too.

"I suggest anyone who is wanting a ballot mailed to them, they check into that as soon as possible so that registrar of voters office can look and see if they qualify, then that registrar of voters office will mail them a ballot," says Iberia Parish Registrar of Voters Kristie Blanchard.

For those with concerns about postage those mail in ballots can be hand delivered to the registrar either by the voter or an immediate family member if you fill out some paperwork. Otherwise as long as there is a stamp the postal service should deliver.

"I feel comfortable saying you can mail your ballot back. Put the seventy cents on it or the fifty five cent stamp. The post office did tell us if they have a stamp on it they are going to mail it back to the registrar of voters office. I think people need to feel ok with using the postal system. If you don't you can hand deliver it to the registrar of voters office," says Blanchard.

Registrars in Louisiana started sending those ballots weeks ago, and will continue to do so through the October 30th request deadline. Just be sure if you'd like one you're requesting the ballot for yourself.

"It can't be signed by another adult. The request has to be signed by the individual who is wanting a ballot sent to them because a lot of people out there might have power of attorney over another adult or a child and power of attorneys are not accepted in the election world in Louisiana," says Blanchard.

Before you head out to the polls, to see a sample ballot or if you have any other questions about voting you can download the Geaux Vote app on your smart phone.
