The Village of Maurice says that equipment failure caused a disruption of a planned general meeting teleconference on Wednesday.

Mayor Wayne Theriot says that the meeting was not able to be held Wednesday following the technical issues.

"We apologize that the teleconference of the Village of Maurice General Meeting held on Wednesday was not able to be held due to technical problems. We tried to set this up on Wednesday afternoon among other things going on and had equipment failure," he said.

If resident have any questions or wanted to comment about any item or issue on the agenda for Wednesday they are asked to contact either the members of the council or Mayor Theriot.

The mayor also released a statement concerning sewer issues

"We have incidents of items induced into our sewer system that have caused problems," Theriot said.

Residents are asked to not flush items such as paper towels, shop towels, rags, wipes or diapers. These items should be disposed of by means other than the sewer system.

In closing his statement, Theriot asks residents to not listen to rumors and only official sources when it comes to the coronavirus.

"Let us continue to pray that our community and family have minimal impact from this health situation. Please don’t listen to rumors. Anything official will come from the Governor’s office."
