School reopening guidelines are now set in Vermilion Parish.
The district's guidelines are based on the Department of Education's standards for group size and spacing.
At this time, students in 1st-12th grade are expected to begin school on August 10. PreK and Kindergarten students are expected to report on August 13. The system's plans are based on the governor's declaration of phased openings. All scenarios are subject to change based on guidance from the CDC, LDE, Gov. Edwards' office, and the Office of Public Health.
If the state is in Phase One, all students will receive distance education. If the state is in Phase Two, elementary students will report to school everyday, while middle and high school students will have a hybrid of distance and on-campus learning.
In Phase Three, all students will report to school.
In Phases Two and Three, guidance on face masks/coverings will be released at a later date by VPSB in accordance with the Office of Public Health and CDC recommendations.
The system will also introduce a new program called Virtual Vermilion, which will be available to any student during any phase of school opening. The program will allow students to access courses delivered by certified instructors through an online format that is closely aligned to the district's scope for each course.
More details on the program will be released on July 8 on the VPSB website.
Guidelines on face coverings/masks will be released at a later date by the school board.
