A Vermilion Parish Sheriff's deputy has been released from the hospital after being injured by a suspect fleeing from police Sunday night.

According to the department, the deputy is expected to make a full recovery and return to work in the future.

"He is very appreciative, and would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts."

The deputy sustained serious injuries when a juvenile suspect slammed into his unit while trying to evade police.

The pursuit was a part of a traffic stop that took authorities from LA Hwy 167 to LA Hwy 14 Westbound.

After crashing his vehicle, deputies say the suspect fled on foot before being captured.

The suspect and his female passenger were taken into custody. The suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The names of those involved have not been released.
