The Vermilion Economic Development Alliance is inviting local businesses in the community and residents to be a part Small Business Saturday.

The date, which is observed on November 28th, is in it's 11th year nationally. It was founded by American Express in 2010 and held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

“For the fourth year in a row, the Vermilion Economic Development Alliance has been selected as a Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion! As a Neighborhood Champion, we spread the word about how important shopping local can be and connect Vermilion Parish businesses to available resources,” says Anne Falgout, Executive Director.

Companies can sign up for free marketing assistance, tips and tools to make the most of their involvement, and access to special Shop Small décor and swag to get their storefront ready for the main event, parish officials said. The only eligibility requirements are that the business has an establishment in Vermilion Parish and plans to be open on November 28th. But there is one slight change this year…

“This holiday season we’re inviting Vermilion-based virtual retailers to participate, too,” adds Falgout, “We want to support our local entrepreneurs who have taken their shops online to combat the effects of COVID-19 and the meet the ever-changing demands of shoppers.”

The Vermilion Economic Development Alliance encourages customers to skip the Black Friday rush and visit participating Small Business Saturday shops in the parish and online. They say it is all in an effort to help tax dollars, employment opportunities, and companies stay close to home.

If you’re a business owner and you’d like to take advantage of the Shop Small & Small Business Saturday materials, please register here by November 20th:https://developvermilion.org/shopsmall/.

Shoppers can use this same link to access a list of shops participating.

“Last year we have had about 30 participating businesses,” Falgout adds, “You can get all your holiday shopping done while supporting your local community. It’s a win-win!”
