Vermilion Parish residents can now drop off their recycling once again.

After a short hiatus, Vermilion Parish now has a location for drop off recycling for residents. Thanks to partnership with Republic Services, the recycling center opened Monday at 8500 Birch Road in Abbeville.

In December, the police jury said that recycling was cut off due to changes in the recycling industry beyond their control. Police Jury President Dane Hebert says that the reason for the closure of the program was because of unsupervised recycling locations throughout the parish which led to contaminated recycling.

Republic Services and Vermilion Parish cut the ribbon on the center Monday May 18, and the location is fully staffed.

Residents wishing to drop off recycling can do so on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Recycled material accepted at the facility are paper, cardboard, plastics, aluminum and metals.

This drop-off location is for residents of the parish only.
