Police are still searching for a suspect following a chase that crossed parish lines.
Maurice Police Chief Guy Nerrin says his department was notified by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's office that a suspect in a stolen black Kia was headed south on La. 167 toward Maurice on Tuesday September 3. Police say the driver was seen turning onto a roadway near Cecil Picard Elementary School where he jumped out of the vehicle before it crashed into trees near the school.
The elementary school was placed on lock down during the search. Police were unable to locate the driver.
Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicle is asked to call Maurice Police or Lafayette Crime stoppers.
