The new water system for the Village of Maurice is now on line, according to Mayor Wayne Theriot.

Theriot said that residents may be experiencing a high level of iron as the system is flushed. That flushing, he said, started from the water plant outward which created a movement of unfiltered water.

Maintenance crews are working to get to all areas as quickly as possible.

Flushing the 600,000 gallons of unfiltered water out of the system will take about two weeks to complete.

Theriot said that once an area has been flushed, residents should run their water for about five to ten minutes to make sure their home water systems are also flushed.

Officials recommend that residents run their hot water for an extended period to help clear any unfiltered water.

New softeners have also been added to the line which may result in a higher level of softness than has been previously experienced, the mayor said.

"With everybody’s patience the situation should improve over the next few weeks," he said.
