Man shot at Abbeville store

A man is listed in stable condition today after a shooting at an Abbeville dollar store overnight.

Chief Bill Spearman says the man had been shopping in the store, and as he was leaving was shot in the parking lot. He said the man was airlifted to a Lafayette hospital where he is listed in stable condition; Spearman says he believes the man will recover. No other injuries were reported, he said.

The chief said investigators are looking at surveillance video to try to solve the crime. The man says he does not know the person or persons who shot him, but Spearman says he believes the man was targeted.

There wasn't a fight or anything, he said.

"No words were exchanged," Spearman says. "He was just shot."
