Kaplan narcotics sting leads to arrest of two

A sting operation conducted by the Narcotics Task Force in Vermilion Parish has led to the arrest of two individuals on several drug charges.

Task Force Commander Drew David says an investigation into illicit drugs in the parish led to the sting on Tuesday, January 28 in Kaplan.

39-year-old Scott Grigsby of Abbeville and 26-year-old Angelyn Uriegas of Kaplan were arrested following the investigation.

Deputies say during the operation both parties arrived at a designated location where agents attempted to make an arrest.

At that time, Grigsby attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a sheriff's unit.

Both Grigsby and Uriegas were apprehended.

Deputies say that a search of the vehicle allegedly yielded nearly three pounds of Crystal Meth, 8.5 ounces of Heroin, Steroids, Cocaine, a 9mm handgun, and several pills.

Suspect drug proceed money was also discovered in the vehicle, according to sheriff's office.

Grigsby was arrested and booked on the following charges:

  • possession with the intent to distribute Methamphetamine
  • possession with the intent to distribute Heroin
  • possession with the intent to distribute cocaine
  • possession of steroids
  • possession of a gun in a drug free zone
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
  • possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions derived from proceeds

Uriegas was arrested and booked on the following charges:

  • possession with the intent to distribute Methamphetamine
  • possession of methamphetamine
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • possession of Clonazepam
  • obliterating a label from a prescription bottle
  • possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug free zone
  • possession with the intent to distribute Heroin
  • possession with the intent to distribute cocaine
  • possession of steroids.
