A Kaplan church planned to hand out over 20,000 pounds of food on Tuesday to residents of Vermilion Parish.

New Beginnings Primitive Baptist Church held the food donation 2:30 pm. at the church on Veteran's Memorial Drive.

Food was handed out via a drive-thru service to Vermilion Parish residents.

Pastor Ernest Williams, III says the most rewarding part was having other community members stop by to help with their efforts.

"We have to come together. Those of us who are able have to come together and step up. As far as the church is concerned, God has mandated us to do this, and again, we just partnered with people who want to help."
