ERATH, La. - The first Erath High School Homecoming Queen was finally crowned 70 years later.
Ida Katherine Sandoz Landry was named the first queen in 1950. The homecoming event was still in its infancy then, and Ida never received a crown.
On Thursday, she was honored at the Erath Hall of Fame Banquet, according to the school's Facebook page.
On Friday, Erath High Principal Marc Turner surprised Ida at the Erath High Homecoming Pep Rally by crowning her.
Then, in a red convertible, the newly crowned queen rode in the homecoming parade.
At the game that evening, she joined the 69th Queen Hannah Granger and Principal Turner to name, crown and congratulate the 70th Homecoming Queen, Izzy Esteb.
