Deputies searching for boy who escaped from hospital

Vermilion Sheriff's deputies and other law enforcement are looking for a boy who escaped from Abbeville General this afternoon.

The 17-year-old was in custody at the time, and was brought to a court-appointed hearing. He was then taken to the hospital for a medical checkup, where he escaped custody from a deputy, according to police.

He is described as a 17-year-old male with brown eyes and brown hair. He is 5'8" and weighs 160 pounds. He is wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans.

The juvenile is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Movable, Simple Burglary, and Intimidation of a Witness.

Police ask residents to not engage the juvenile in any manner.

The Sheriff's Office added that anyone who may aid this person that serious charges can result if any assistance is rendered to the escapee.
