In Abbeville, Freedom World Ministries gave away 1,000 boxes of meat and vegetables to residents on Tuesday.
The giveaway took place from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm on Dutel Street and Franks Alley.
Pastor Lawrence Levy says that boxes of ham, roast beef, chicken, cheese, butter, fruits and veggies were given away to the first 1,000 people who drive up.
The drive-thru distribution was on a first come first serve basis.
"The feedback has been tremendous. People are coming and calling. Different businesses, business owners," explained Levy. "I just want to merge the city with love and stop some of the violent acts that's been going on here and bring the people together. So that's what we're doing."
