A bicyclist was killed in a crash on LA Hwy 14 in Abbeville on Sunday night.
Police say that around 7:25 p.m. Abbeville police officers responded to a crash on LA Hwy. 14 near Walmart involving a vehicle and a bicycle.
Upon the officer’s arrival, they observed a man on the roadway near the intersection of LA Hwy. 14 and Broadmoore Avenue.
An investigation found that the bicyclist had attempted to cross over LA Hwy. 14 from Broadmoore Avenue and failed to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle traveling west on LA Hwy. 14. That vehicle struck the bicycle, ejecting the rider onto the roadway.
Police say the rider was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead on the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the vehicle traveling on LA Hwy. 14 was transported to the Abbeville Police Department, where he submitted to a toxicology test. That test showed no sign of impairment.
The crash remains under investigation.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
