ABBEVILLE — As the holiday season approaches, some in Vermilion Parish are making spirits bright.
An Abbeville woman posted in the Vermilion Parish Updates Facebook group Sunday morning, asking that people comment below her original post with what they need this holiday season, and, in return, people can respond with how they can help.
Kathy Castro says she was inspired to create the post after seeing something similar following hurricanes Laura and Delta.
"Well, I saw it on another post, actually, on a hurricane post to help the hurricane victims, and I was like this would be awesome to post in our Vermilion Parish because Vermilion Parish has amazing people," explained Castro. "They're very giving, very godly people, and there's so many people that need help right now."
In less than 24 hours, the post generated more than 400 comments with some people already getting the things they need.
"We've all had hard times, so we can relate to everyone, and I think that's why people are stepping up because they know; they've been there," said Castro.
Castro says she's amazed by the response and is happy, knowing the post is helping make this holiday season brighter.
"It's just material things, but it's going to make somebody happy. And you don't know what's going to happen from there," said Castro. "That person that you give to is going to pass on that blessing to somebody else."
Castro is hoping this starts a chain reaction across Acadiana of strangers and neighbors helping one another, so families and individuals can close out the year on a good note.
