The Abbeville City Council is set to discuss the allocation of its new sales tax tonight.

On the agenda of the regular council meeting is a resolution that sets out salary increases and new pay plans necessary because of the recent sales tax increase.

Voters approved increasing the city's sales tax rate to 10.45 percent to fund raises for all city employees. The city started collecting the taxes in October, and the raises are slated to take effect in January, when the new fiscal year begins.

The sales tax is projected to raise about $1.1 million annually.
