An Abbeville man is facing aggravated assault and second degree battery charges after police say he stabbed his mother and himself during a domestic incident.
Deputies with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office responded to an Abbeville residence on Tuesday, January 28 to a report of a person wanting to do harm to his parents.
That man has been identified as 34-year-old Robert Curtis Hargrave, Jr.
Deputies say that Narcotics Task Force agents in the area responded to the call while deputies were in route.
When they arrived, agents say that Hargrave Jr. answered the door holding a knife and was allegedly stabbing himself in the chest.
Upon entering the residence, agents say they advised Hargrave to drop the knife. He was subdued and given medical aid.
Agents say Hargrave's mother had also been stabbed in the home.
Hargrave and his mother were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The sheriff's office say the mother had received non-life threatening injuries during the incident.
Upon his release from the hospital, deputies say Hargrave Jr. will be booked on the following charges:
- 2 counts of Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault
- False imprisonment with a dangerous weapon
- Second degree battery
- Aggravated Second Degree Battery
