16-year-old accused of attempted murder

ABBEVILLE, La. - A 16-year-old boy is accused of attempted murder following a Friday morning shooting.

On July 24, 2020, at 5:15 a.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to a shooting call at a local apartment complex. Upon the officer’s arrival, officers located a male victim who had been shot, according to Lt. Jonathan Touchet, spokesperson for the Department.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Officers immediately began conducting an investigation into the shooting, including following up on several leads. Officers were able to secure an arrest warrant for the juvenile, charging him with attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapons and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. He was booked and transported to a juvenile holding facility, Touchet stated.

This is an ongoing investigation, with more arrests are expected.
