A Pineville Police officer who was allegedly shot at a shopping center Sunday night actually shot himself, authorities now say.
KALB reports that the officer claimed he was shot while exiting his police vehicle around 11:20 p.m. Sunday. The officer, identified as John Goulart, Jr., said he was struck once in the leg and a second shot hit the door of his vehicle.
Police now say that Goulart shot himself, concealed the weapon, and altered the facts. He's been charged with one count of criminal mischief and one count of malfeasance in office and has been placed on administrative leave.
