Two inmates have been arrested in connection with a fire at the Franklin Police Department on Thursday.
Police says that around 6:55 p.m. officers discovered a fire in a file room of the Police Department building after detecting smoke. Upon further investigations into the cause of the fire, with the assistance of the Franklin Fire Department, contraband was located in a wall of the jail that is adjacent to a file room.
The police department says the fire appears to have been started from what they identified as tobacco contraband.
Franklin Police say that after an investigation two inmates were arrested in connection to the fire.
54-year-old Lee Butler was arrested on Friday at 1:32 AM, on the charges of aggravated arson, attempted second degree murder - 7 counts, second degree injuring public records, and contraband in penal institution.
35-year-old Eric Dennis was arrested at around 2:11 AM, on the charges of attempted second degree murder - 7 counts, second degree injuring public records, contraband in penal institution, and aggravated arson.
Both were later booked into the St. Mary Parish Correctional Center.
