Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting on Wednesday in Lawrence Park in Morgan City.

Police say it was reported to officers that two different groups began to argue at during that time one of the suspects produced a handgun and fired at another subject, who then returned fire. An off-duty Morgan City Police Department officer along with an off-duty Berwick Police Department officer who were nearby entered the park and determined that there was no one injured due to the park having numerous people at this time of day.

Morgan City Police say that as responding patrol officers were arriving they were directed to a vehicle leaving the area which contained a possible suspect. Officers were able to chase down that vehicle and stop it. Through the investigation, several suspects were developed by detectives.

The Berwick Police Department says they have arrested 34-year-old Lasheka Webb and 31-year-old Gerald Sylvester after Morgan City Police requested assistance in locating the two.

A warrant was secured and police say they located Webb and Sylvester at a residence on Versen Street in Berwick. Police say Webb was arrested inside the home and that Sylvester allegedly fled from officers during his arrest.

A taser was reportedly used to no effect of Sylvester who then reportedly removed an object from his waistband and pointed it at an officer. Police say he yelled at the officer to kill him and then said he was going to kill the officer.

Police say the officer could see that the object in Sylvester's hand was a cell phone and not a gun. Sylvester then allegedly fled and the officer again attempted to use a taser, ineffectively, to detain him.

Sylvester then jumped into a large drainage canal where, police say he continued to yell for the officers to kill him. After over an hour of negotiations with Sylvester, police say he exited the canal where he was taken into custody without incident.
