The St. Mary Parish School Board has released their plans for reopening schools this fall amid COVID-19.
As of now, the parish will be moving forward in Phase Two of their plan, which is a hybrid format. Students will both learn in-person and virtually, with elementary school students reporting in-person daily and secondary students adhering to a modified schedule, alternating days on campus.
The parish released sample schedules for grades 6-8 and 9-12. Students would be put into either Group A or Group B and attend school two days a week and be virtual two days a week. Wednesday would be a planning day for teachers.
The plan also includes how the parish will distribute mobile devices for schools/parents and students for virtual learning. The board is deploy hotspots to assist families with internet access and is encouraging service providers to provide free or low-cost internet access.
