A woman the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's office labeled "The Grinch" has turned herself in.

The department shared a post on December 27 about a woman who allegedly stole $3,000 worth of merchandise from the Bayou Vista Walmart.

In that post was a photo of the suspect, now identified as 35-year-old Jamie Brown of Thibodaux. Edited onto that photo was a Santa hat with the word naughty written on it. The department also created a poem in the style of Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Brown, according to deputies, turned herself in on January 1, 2020. She was booked on a charge of theft and another warrant from Forest Police Department in Mississippi for felony theft. She was transported to the St. Mary Parish Jail.

The Sheriff's Office says that soon after posting, tips came in identifying Brown as the thief.

"We are amazed at the amount of information that we receive from the public anonymously about crimes, missing persons, runaway juveniles, and other situations of which we need to be aware. We are thankful that you partner with us here at the SMPSO to enforce the law and work hard for public safety," The St. Mary Sheriff's Office said.
