The St. Mary Parish Courthouse was closed for several hours today after a bomb threat was called in.
Franklin Police say that around 11:45 AM, officers received a call of a bomb threat at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse located on Main Street. Courthouse officials were notified of the threat received and an evacuation of the courthouse building began.
Upon the completion of the evacuation, the building was searched for any suspicious devices by law enforcement officials. In addition, to assistance from Franklin Police Department, the Franklin Fire Department, and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, the Chitimacha Tribal Police Department assisted in search efforts by deploying their K-9 bomb dog.
The building has been cleared and the investigation efforts continue into the caller of the bomb threat. The Courthouse was re-opened at 1:00 p.m.
