The Morgan City Police Department is cautioning residents about a scam underway in the city.
Several people have called the department to complain about calls from someone claiming to be an officer. This person claims that the person's name, SSN, driver's license number or other personal information has been used in a crime. The caller then says if you don't call them back you will be arrested.
This is a scam.
The MCPD says that they would never conduct investigations this way. No legitimate law enforcement agency would.
If someone calls and demands information about you, never give it to them, officers say.
