A 79-year-old man is dead following a house fire in Morgan City.
According to Fire Chief Alvin Cockerham, firefighters were called to a home in the 600 block of Aucoin Street on Tuesday morning.
Cockerham tells KWBJ that the fire was not large and started on the kitchen stove.
The victim, whose name has not been released, reportedly died of smoke inhalation.
His body was located inside the home.
No other residents were inside the home at the time of the fire.
The state fire marshal's office confirmed that deputies are now investigating the cause.
Deputies say that evidence indicates that the fire may have been accidental and cooking-related.
SFM says that more information will be released once the investigation is complete.
