Morgan City firefighters respond to early morning fire on Ditch Avenue

MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire along Ditch Avenue.

The fire department says that shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve they were dispatched to a house fire on Ditch Avenue. The first arriving Engine out of City Hall Fire Station arrived within minutes to find heavy fire already blowing through the roof.

A second alarm was quickly dispatched for off duty personnel to respond for man power, in all, 18 personnel 3 engines and a ladder truck responded.

Photos provided of the scene show fire and smoke coming from the roof of the home. It was not stated if anyone was inside the residence when the fire started. No injuries were reported.

KWBJ reports that the home was abandoned and no one was inside. This is the second time the home has caught fire, the fire department states that the first time was due to a lightning strike.

The fire remains under investigation at this time.
