Several Franklin FFA students were recently recognized at a state event and will be heading for a national competition.

The chapter participated in Louisiana FFA's socially distant State Land Judging Career Development Event, which tests students' knowledge on various aspects of a given plot of land, including soil texture, slope, and erosion, in order to determine its capability and best overall use.

The Franklin FFA chapter placed first, making them State Champions in the Land Judging CDE. In addition, team member and Franklin High School senior Karina Lakhani was the overall highest scoring individual in the entire state.

The students have thus qualified themselves for National Competition in Oklahoma City, OK, where they will all represent Louisiana FFA on the national level.

One of Franklin FFA's senior members, Ashlun Price, was selected, along with 26 other seniors, to attend the Ag Fellows 2020 event put on by the LSU College of Agriculture. Ag Fellows is a premiere initiative to recognize and recruit top underserved scholars in the country.

Students were able to visit with faculty, interact with current LSU students, and tour the LSU campus. Ten scholarships were awarded to students in attendance, including Ashlun. She plans to attend LSU to major in Animal Science Pre-Vet.
