Identity of DOTD worker released following fatal boating accident

UPDATE: St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies are identifying the DOTD worker as 22-year-old Jeffrey Paul Curry, Jr., of Arnaudville.

Sheriff Blaise Smith released a statement this evening regarding the incident. Smith explained that around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, an amphibious vehicle overturned in Bayou Ramos. The vehicle was carrying three men who were working in the bayou. Two were able to swim to safety. Curry was located about three hours later by divers with the Dive Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Blaise Smith and the deputies of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office send our condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Paul Curry, Jr. Our prayers and thoughts will be with his family and friends during this time.

Sheriff Smith said the U.S. Coast Guard will be conducting further investigation into the incident.

Authorities have recovered the body of a DOTD worker who went missing after falling off of a swamp buggy in St. Mary Parish Wednesday.

Deputies and first responders with the Amelia Fire Department, Morgan City Fire Department, and Acadian Ambulance are on the scene at Bayou Ramos in Amelia after the vehicle overturned in the bayou, according to David Spencer, spokesperson for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

Two other workers were able to make it out of the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard will be investigating the worker's death because it was a boating accident.

AMELIA, La. - Authorities are searching for a missing worker in St. Mary Parish.

Deputies and first responders with the Amelia Fire Department, Morgan City Fire Department, and Acadian Ambulance are on the scene at Bayou Ramos in Amelia after a swamp buggy work vehicle overturned in the bayou, according to David Spencer, spokesperson for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

Two workers are out of the water and rescuers are working to located another person.
