The family of a Baldwin woman killed in 2016 is speaking out after the sentencing of her killer.

Reynell Lockett's family says they are pleased with the sentencing of Russell Richard Jr., Lockett's ex-husband.

It was very puzzling but we came through this and we got it today this morning approximately 10:15 am. 35 years hard labor which is good enough for the family," Reynell's son Renaud Richard said. "We just want to see justice served."

The 16th JDC says that Richard was sentenced on Monday to 35 years hard labor for the 2016 murder. He pled no contest to manslaughter in January of this year.

Locket was found strangled in her car near the Baldwin canal. Richard was developed as a person of interest in her death early on in the investigation.

Her family says that Reynell was well known in the area and well loved. "No a day goes by that we don't miss her. I just want to give a big thank you to everyone that was a part of this." Reynell's son says it was a long process but they made it through.
